WTO Introduction Day; April 7th

The WTO Secretariat is pleased to announce the programme for the 26th WTO Introduction Day, intended for delegates newly arrived in Geneva, non-governmental organizations, as well as interns currently working in the Secretariat and new staff members.

The activity will take place on Thursday 7 April 2011 in the Centre William Rappard

This one-day activity consisted of four sessions:

* Introduction to the WTO, which permitted the dissemination of general information about the WTO, its historical background, its main functions and the way it is structured;

* Basic legal principles of the GATT/WTO;

* Overview of current activities of the WTO, including the state-of-play of the current negotiations; and

* WTO Website and documents on line system, which included ways to access WTO-related information through Internet.

There will be another Introduction Day early next year, date to be announced.

My question is, does anyone know for sure that Iraq will or will not be apart of this introduction ceremony?

WTO introduction days

These courses are organized by the ITTC in cooperation with experts from WTO divisions and mainly consist of a presentation on the state-of-play of the negotiations, the historical background of the multilateral trading system (MTS), the WTO basic principles, the functioning of the Organization, as well as the different ways to access WTO-relevant information. The courses, provided with interpretation, are held at WTO headquarters in Geneva. In terms of objectives to be reached, it is expected that at the end of the introduction day the participants will have:

acquired a general understanding of the WTO, its functioning and fundamental principles;

learned how to access WTO-relevant resources through information technology; and,

updated their knowledge on WTO current activities (including negotiations).

Details of the courses to be held this year can be found here.
